Italy coast to coast

Romeo and Juliet
William Shapespeare

Where else, could William Shakespearean have set his tragedy Romeo and Juliet, except in Italy? Here, everything revolves around this indefinable essence called love, that for Italians is more than just a feeling, more than an emotion.

It’s the supreme reason of human existence. And the Shakespearian tragedy merely confirms that there can be no love here without suffering.
Personally, I exclude that this could be an imaginary invention of literature. In fact, the Italian Luigi da Porto around 1530, in his “ storia” wrote of two noble lovers, the story of Romeo Montecchi and Juliet Cappelletti, which took place in Verona.
Montecchi and Cappelletti were the names of two rival families of Florence, already mentioned by the supreme poet Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy.
Just cross the old arched door of the House of Juliet, when the sun is starting to set in Verona, along the Via Cappello.
Sit on the stairs that face the main door and listen to the breeze, smell the air, look at the balcony and imagine a young girl who for the first time explores the mysteries of love and that, after tasting them, considers the one she loves the most important person in her life.
Let yourself be accompanied on a journey suspended between fairy tale and reality.
This place will leave you in a spell that will be very difficult to forget.

Gerry.
